Sustainability

The inaugural LPGA Volvik Championship in 2016 was southeast Michigan’s first annual professional golf event since the PGA last played here in 2009.

We believe the responsibility of hosting a premier international sporting event includes the obligation of maximizing our sustainability program’s “triple bottom line.” As such, our team is committed to the social, environmental and financial impacts the tournament has on the state of Michigan and on the communities surrounding Ann Arbor, in particular.

With planning, guidance, and on-site assistance provided by Schupan Recycling, our event achieved a 29% diversion rate in its first year and a 39% diversion rate in 2017. The Volvik Championship is working to become a recycling and sustainability leader among all professional golf tournaments, and we are already developing our strategy and communication plans for our next event.

Volvik LPGA Sustainability

We are privileged to partner with the Volvik Championship in creating a sustainability program reflective of the values of Ann Arbor and the LPGA. The program’s success suggests that the Volvik Championship is poised to set the standard for event sustainability. We hope to translate that forward momentum into even greater environmental impacts in the years to come.”
